Rainy Day Wedding in Kangaroo Valley

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged a wedding, with a massive Christmas and New Year period this year it’s been difficult to find the time and ever since I captured this wonderful, joyous, emotional and ethereal wedding back in October I’ve wanted to put it up here to show everyone how much fun can be had on a day with a bit of rain. Unfortunately over the past couple of months we’ve seen across Australia one of the worst fire seasons in memory and a huge casualty from these tragic fires was Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat. I’ve had the privilege of capturing 4 or 5 wedding there so far and each one has been as special as the first. The team there are amazing people who care about their guests, and want nothing more than for everyone to have the best day ever.

I wrote down in the days after the fires that took KVBR some of my thoughts, and want to share them here.

“Over the past few days I've been thinking a lot about our friends in the wedding industry impacted by these devastating fires and none more so than Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat. Just a month ago I saw them honoured by receiving an ABIA award for best ceremony site, hard to disagree with that. While receiving the award they paid tribute to their team, truly passionate about the people who keep the machine running week in week out delivering amazing weddings for wonderful couples and the families & friends. I've been lucky enough to photograph a few weddings there, and witnessed some of the most special moments of my career there. A ceremony in the pouring rain, which was ethereal and emotional. A sunset for the history books. Funny stories, treasured memories. I love it there. I know KVBR will grow from this, like the native flora that was indiscriminately burnt around them - they will rise up through the ashes to grow back rejuvenated, more resilient, bigger and better than ever before. You have the support of the whole wedding community.”

Thanks for reading my thoughts and sharing this wedding with me, check out the last photo for a great idea for a night shot - the fog that rolled in around 9pm was a great way to end the day.
